Job Qualifications

Businesspeople Walking Through Airport with Luggage

And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.
Exodus 31:3 (NKJV)

Can you imagine being a brick layer all your life? Your daddy was a brick layer. Your grandaddy was a brick layer. Your kids were most likely going to be brick layers. It was all you knew. Imagine then, being called forth to work with metal, with jewels, and with very specific instructions. I would bet you and I would be overwhelmed. I am willing to guess that so was Bezalel. Mentioned in chapter 31 of Exodus, Bezalel was to be the one of the artists who was responsible for building the Tabernacle of God. I can just picture the look on his face when Moses came by to give him the job description. I know how my flesh would have responded. You want me to do what? I am not trained in that area! I have no experience. I don’t know what I am doing!

But there is a little catch in verse 3. The Lord had equipped Bezalel. He had filled Bezalel with knowledge beyond what he had. Knowledge beyond what his experiences taught him. Knowledge that was exactly what Bezalel needed to complete the task set before him.

I don’t know about you, but there are times when I feel overwhelmed at what God has placed before me. I feel unequipped for the task at hand. I believe my experience is limited and the job before me is outside its bounds. Maybe you had parents who failed more than succeeded and you think you can’t do it either. Perhaps you grew up in a house full of girls and the Lord blessed you with all boys…ahem. Your struggle might be at work. It could even be in ministering to a friend or a stranger where you feel overwhelmed.

Be encouraged, if the Lord has called you (and that is the sticking point), He will most certainly give you what you need to do it. The little shot of wisdom before you speak to your teenager. The little bolt of peace before you make a presentation or speak with your boss.  The words that seem to be flowing out of your mouth or off your page, as you minister to friends and strangers alike, that you know are not yours.

In both big and small areas, from potty training to platform speaking, the Lord has sent His Spirit to give us all the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding we need to do the job set before us.  Through Jesus, you will lack nothing required for the task. It does not mean we won’t be nervous or afraid.  However, it does give us the boldness to press on, knowing we are complete in Christ Jesus.

Make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to who be glory forever and ever,  Amen.

Hebrews 13;21 (NKJV)

Father God, thank You that You have promised to prepare us. We may not know we are prepared. We may feel anxious and overwhelmed. You, however, are not. You have everything we need to complete the assignments You have set before us, and You willingly equip us. Whether they be tasks You have called us to in the public eye, or the tasks we are called to in the privacy of our own homes, You have supplied our every need. Remind us and prompt us, Holy Spirit, to seek the knowledge and wisdom so readily available to us in the Word of God. Prick our hearts to pray in those times we need direction. Give us ears to hear instructions and the strength to walk them out. In Jesus mighty and saving Name….Amen.

El Shaddai

31 Days Day 5

I’m not sure why, but I tend to be one that remembers almost everything I ever received as a gift. I remember wedding presents, gifts from when I was a kid and gifts that people sent to me along the way just because. It’s important to this brain o’ mine. So I hold and treasure and remember each gift.

This morning, as I was singing in church, one verse in the refrain really captured my heart. It said, “He holds my world.” As I sang the words, I realized that one of the very most important things to me in the whole world is knowing not only that God has the whole world in His hands, but He has MY world in His hands–He is my El Shaddai, my All-sufficient One, able to be all that I need and cover each worry and care with Himself.

He knows…my heart concerns, my earthquakes, my emotions, and my world. Everything that I see and know and touch and experience–He is sufficient over. Everything that I care about, every one that I treasure–He is sufficient over. The past, present and future of who I am and what I face…they are in His Hands–and He is sufficient over it all.

God doesn’t just hold my world, He holds me. He sees me and cares about me. He is ever-present, ever-helping, ever my very own closest friend–He is sufficient over me.

I don’t know about you, maybe it doesn’t shake your world as it does mine, but the God of the Universe is my friend. On the days when I’m surrounded by friends and on the days when I feel friendless, He is there. He has given me and you the gift of Presence.

Lord, I thank You. You are my All-sufficient One, my El Shaddai. You are holding our worlds, our shattered, broken, crazy, angry, helpless, hurtful, scary, unstable, individual worlds. Father, that means the world to me, to us! For we are hanging onto Your promises and believing that above all You are FOR us, WITH us and You are ENOUGH. Thank you, El Shaddai, You are sufficient through and in and over and around.

Help us to be present with those we love, to hold their worlds with a loving heart. We are choosing to give the gift of presence this year to our families and friends–each one you bring on our pathway. Someday, they’ll remember and maybe even say, “She looked a lot like Jesus.”
