A military wife (USAF, retired), mom of 3, veteran homeschooler, and nana to two of the most beautiful grandchildren ever, Trish enjoys reading, photography and fiber arts (i.e. knitting and crochet). A Martha Heart’s co-founders, Holly and Trish, began their friendship by God’s providence through the blogosphere. They met in person in February 2008, and soon after began discussing and making plans for A Martha Heart. They recognized in each other the shared passions of encouraging women to sit at Jesus’ feet, find joy in His presence every day, and make plans for their family and home in an intentional manner. As life so often does, it intruded upon both women’s lives, bringing unforeseen surprises and challenges which put their plans of working together on hold. After more than 2 years of discussions, idea exchanges, many emails, phone calls and much prayer, Holly and Trish were finally able to launch A Martha Heart’s website. In addition to A Martha Heart, Holly and Trish each have personal blogs. Holly’s can be found at Crown Laid Down Designs (http://www.crownlaiddowndesigns.com) ; Trish’s blog is A Joyful Heart (http://www.joyfulheartblog.com) .
I’m a wife, mother of 2 grown children, five grandchildren with one in heaven, sister and daughter of the King. I am married to my best friend for 41 years. I have worked for/with him for 18 years, I’m now his only employee. The Lord drew me to Himself over forty years ago, as He spoke to me at a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting and I’ve never been alone since that day! It will be my honor and blessing to pray for all of you. He called me to be an intercessor many years ago. Leaning on Him and holding His hand. Mary Lou is our precious prayer warrior, behind-the-scenes, and on her knees for all of us. She is the heart of A Martha Heart. We, each one, could not do this without her.
Carol, her husband Phil, and their two college-aged children now live in Colorado after having lived in Connecticut, Illinois, Colorado (once before), California, Florida, Virginia, and New Jersey due to Phil’s career in sales. While living in many different states has been an adventure, they are thrilled to be “home” again in Colorado where Phil grew up. As a brand new empty nester, Carol is enjoying spending time with Phil, their little dog, Kobi, and her career in Real Estate. Carol also writes at her personal blog, I Throw Like a Girl.
Rhonda grew up in rural Arkansas, the oldest of four girls. She now lives in Texas with her husband and their two MCs. After a decade of teaching in the public school system, Rhonda spent two years at home with their boys. She has just returned to the public school system as a secondary science teacher. She is passionate not only about the integrity of God’s Holy Word, but about its life changing power and our daily choice to believe it. Her adventures with the MCs and HH can be followed at her blog, aptly entitled I CHOOSE.
Sheila Wray Gregoire loves family. She loves her family, including her three children (one in heaven) and her husband; and she loves that God made families as the primary vehicle to show His love. Probably part of this love stems from the fact that growing up, family wasn’t healthy. Her dad left when she was two, and Sheila saw the damage that divorce does, even though her mom was amazing (and still is, as we take missions trips together!) So her passion in this life is to help strengthen families–to equip women to be the best wives and mothers they can be, and especially to cultivate marriages that are rock solid. She’s written four books for women, including To Love, Honor and Vacuum: When you feel more like a maid than a wife and a mother, and she has another coming out with Zondervan soon. She also writes a weekly parenting column, and speaks at women’s events and marriage conferences around North America. Usually, though, you can find her at home, where she homeschools her two daughters. And knits. Preferably simultaneously! She blogs daily at To Love, Honor and Vacuum Please come visit! I love great conversations about how we can strengthen family and make this world resemble God’s heart.
Proudly born and raised Texan, Heather now resides in the great White North of Canada with her husband, John, her five children, a dog who adores her a little too much and a cat who tolerates her from time to time. When not homeschooling her children, Heather either has her nose in a book or her eye to her camera. You can read and see more by Heather at her blog, Finding My Focus.
Cari D. Johnson is a native Texan, who is happily married and busily raising six kids. She loves to share funny stories and sweet songs … but NOT her ginger snaps. She finds it challenging to process life’s interruptions, but she is growing to realize they are usually part of God’s bigger plan for her. “I am thrilled when I spy a truth of God, hidden in plain sight. He is so wonderfully patient as I learn to know Him better.” You can read more from Cari on her personal blog, Certainly Discovering Joy.

A wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. All of these titles describe Dori Cook. But the title she cherishes more than anything is a redeemed Child of God. Raised in church from even before her first memory, she has loved Jesus from the minute she first heard His Name sitting in tiny chairs in a little Sunday School class. But it wasn’t until she knelt at an old yellow wood pew in her little church with her parents by her side that she asked Him to be her Lord and Savior. Suddenly, Jesus became more than a watercolor painting in a Bible story. He became her Redeemer, her Friend, her Strength and her Song. He became her Story.
Stories can stay in the heart of a soul or stories can be told. Life has been quite a journey with many ups and downs, fears and failings. There have also been many joys. Each one has become important part of her story. And that’s Dori’s calling…to share her story, encourage the weary, strengthen the weak and share her joys and struggles with other sisters in Christ.
Dori lives in Middle Tennessee and has been married more than 20 years to her best friend. She and her husband, Butch, have two amazing children. She is beginning the letting go years of motherhood as her oldest child will graduate from high school in 2014. She has served in Women’s Ministry off and on for more almost 20 years and is currently teaching high school girls the Bible on Sunday mornings at her church. She is a freelance writer and is currently in the process of launching a new website, Far Down the Road, at www.doricook.com. Until then, you can read some of her writings at www.doricook.blogspot.com.
